MAGDALENA GAMAYO

Before being one of the national living treasures, Magdalena Gamayo in her early years practiced abel weaving with her childhood friends at the age of 16. Born on August 13. 1924 on Ilocos Norte, she carefully watches her mother weaved textile patterns until she can do it by herself. Even at present, she continuously working with abel weaving native cotton planted from their hometown Pinili in Ilocos Norte. Known as "Lola Magdalena", she teaches the younger generation to practice her abel weaving style patterns in order to pass the knowledge and tradition to them.
